Portraits from Jamaica
October - December 2015
Portraits from Jamaica features portraits of people I connected with during my time in Jamaica. In a span of three months in Jamaica, I traveled to Bluefields, Black River, Montego Bay, Kingston, St. Andrews, and Negril to witness the multiplicity of life on the island. The alluring rhythm of patois, the vibrant culture and music charmed me. A lone traveller, I met people in the most unusual places, "reasoned" with them, and observed how life unfolded. Farmers, taxi drivers, artists, fishermen, and others from a wide-range of backgrounds invited me to understand their island through their eyes. As a result, I produced a series of portraits that merely touches on the richness and abundance that Jamaican people, and their culture, harness.
